ABOUT

Sue at Cranked.jpg

Sue grew up in Burnaby, B.C., in a musical household surrounded by many family members.  Sue’s mother played piano and her father played trumpet, drums, and had a large voice.  Her love of music started mainly as appreciation, listening to Broadway musicals blasting from the stereo on Sunday mornings.  At the age of 14, she picked up her sister’s guitar and started playing songs around the campfire and occasional family party.

While teaching high school Physical Education in Dawson Creek, Sue began spending a lot of  time with other teachers in the band room.  This led to jamming and performances at the local Alaska Café and Rolla Pub.

In 1997 after relocating to Whistler, Sue started performing as a back-up singer for the local Classic Rock band Still Smokin’ and eventually became lead singer and rhythm guitar player.

Sue founded the Chicks with Picks Learn to Play Guitar Program in 2003, at the Pemberton Community Centre, and the program expanded to Whistler in 2013.
